As you tighten the thumb screw...gently twist the bowl to the right maybe a 1/16 to an 1/8 turn.

Have you checked the radiator cap ? look for corrosion where the cap seals. may be the cap spring getting weak.

sounds like the ground is breaking down when the engine is being stopped. Electronic or point and condenser both stop by going to ground

Check the ground connection at the mag, could be a bad switch. try grounding the stud on the mag to ground with a jumper see if it does the same
